Foundational Skills of Motivational Interviewing - Part I
Elisha Rain and Erica Mouch are registered dietitian nutritionists focused on supporting healthcare professionals find more ease and excitement in working with their clients through Motivational Interviewing (MI). They are passionate about MI, Health At Every Size® and Intuitive Eating.
Motivational Interviewing, first described by William Miller (1983), and later elaborated in the classic book—Motivational Interviewing: Preparing People for Change (1991, 2002, 2014)—offers a practical, evidence-based approach for supporting clients in making and sustaining healthy behavior changes.
This full-day, in-person training will provide you with a solid understanding of the basics of MI and practical skills to continue your own growth.
This intensive program is geared toward healthcare practitioners who have a beginning understanding of MI and who want to deepen their practice. We have built in a variety of practice activities and techniques to cover diverse learning styles.
This Training will provide lectures, demonstration, and practice with:
Exploration of the Spirit of MI.
What is ambivalence?
What is your righting reflex?
Understanding The Continuum of Styles.
What is change talk and why does it matter?
Deep dive into the basic skills of MI (OARS): open questions, affirmations, and reflections. (Summaries will be included in Part II.)
Education and practice with sharing information in a motivational interviewing style.
